Our publisher, a Londoner and veteran of over 35 years in the tourism industry, has visited and stayed at many of these properties and has included some of his insider tips on specific properties and what to do and see.

Of primary interest to you when visiting Britain is sure to be its storied past, so we have included an abundance of hotel histories, and where available vintage photography particularly in London, to help you enjoy your visit, and imagine the way it was so many years ago..

One of the very best ways to experience the British countryside and meet the locals is to rent a cottage or stay at a pub in a small village. We strongly recommend this to everyone, perhaps spend 4-5 days in London and then head for the country or the beach, or as the British say “the seaside”. If you have limited time, stay in London and take day trips to the top attractions outside the city, we have a large number of day trips available to Oxford, Cambridge, York, Edinburgh and many more exciting locations.
