Oxford, England

Christ Church College

The wonderful buildings of Christ Church College not only include the Cathedral Church for Oxford but also encompass the largest college in the University. These wonderful buildings, in mellow golden stone are the epitome of the City of Oxford. The Christ Church complex includes several libraries, the Great Quadrangle and Tom Tower, several other quadrangles, Christ Church Hall, the Meadow Building, the Cathedral and the Picture Gallery, which makes the modestly priced entrance fee great value for money.

The Cathedral has some wonderful architectural features including the Norman arcade, Gothic windows in the clerestory and beautiful fan-vaulted ceilings. The stained glass is beautiful throughout, including the Wheel Window. The library has many famous works in its collection as well as an ever-changing exhibition of drawings and prints. The bowler-hatted custodians will answer questions as well as providing security through the college.

The sense of history and awe at the great names who have trod these path before, including 13 British prime ministers and many top names in literature, religion, philosophy and entertainment, is part of the wonder of a visit to Christ Church.

Location: The Visitor’s entrance is through the large gate in the College’s Meadow Building, off the main road, St Aldgates.
